Setsuko's glass furnace is ON till just before Christmas. She is working on some orders and glassblowing lessons. If you want to try glassblowing yourself, please book now. She only takes one person or a couple a day. You can purchase gift vouchers as Christmas present for 2012 lessons.

Exhibition at Back to Back Gallery

My exhibition at Back to Back Gallery in Newcastle started on Friday, 19 August. That day was very cold and it was rain at the time of opening, 6pm. But we had a very good crowd. People seem to have enjoyed with our work, food ( included my chocolate ) and company.

I made these works - Compositions of Bottles for the Exhbition, Art Scrawl on June Long weekend. The works were on Monday newspaper, the Herald. I am glad some people noticed my work. I continue working for this theme -Recycling bottles in more practical way - serving dish perhaps.

New signs

We put up new signs yesterday. So we have sore muscle today.

Building back furnace

We are now building back the furnace.

Dismantling furnace

Now we are dismantling furnace for changing the furnace tank inside. We will rebuild and use new controller to heat up in April.

New controller arrived from USA and we ckecked whether it workes or not. And it does!!

Thunderstorm and Electric furnace

We had a very strong thunderstorm last night from 8p.m. -12 a.m. and our electric furnace controller was damaged. We tried to find out the problem and fix as talking with the manufacture in USA on phone from 1 - 2 a.m. In the end, a little smoke came out from the back of controller panel. So we have to send the whole controller box to USA to get fixed.

It is very bad luck, but it happened luckily today. We would shut down our furnace from today anyway for next few month.

The bottle with bird stopper

When I look back, I saw some cute bottles which my partner was finishing. Beautiful sunshine and green grass give a nice touch to the glass.

It is normally hanged on near window. I just put on the table before putting away or hanging. But it looks good together like this.

Yellow Heart

Cutting dichro glass

I had a trouble to cut sheets of glass for long time. Now I have mastered with right equipment.

Set the glass Dichro colour face down and width including cutter tip width. Push the glass from left.
Push and pull the cutter straight from top at once. Do not go back or do twice.
When I store the oil cutter, I have to close the screw, put the tip in oily cloth and keep vertical.
When I use the cutter, loose the screw. Add more the singer oil as needed.

A bowl with Ki symbol

Glass is one medium that attracts the Ki energy and transfers it to your spirit and body.

Setsuko designed and created special glass pieces with “氣” (Ki in Chinese character), which is symbol of the Ki energy. She put her spirit and energy in every piece.
